Welcome to our 2010 – 2011 Season!
There are so many exciting things happening here at South Bay Dance Center, it is truly a great time to be dancing with us. Once again, students have a chance to receive a quality dance education in a positive learning environment. From beginners to pre-professional dancers, ages 2 – adult, we have classes for a variety of students. We have a wonderful staff of qualified dance educators. All of our teachers are committed to training a new generation of dancers and have a genuine interest in seeing every student succeed.
This year ballet students have the opportunity to be a part of our production of the full-length ballet, The Nutcracker. For our sixth Nutcracker production (an every-other year tradition that began in 2000), we are looking forward to another chance to show off our impressive new sets that premiered in 2008. More improvements are planned as well; new costumes for our Ginger Cookies and Soldiers are already in the works! Dancers, age 5 and older, who plan to enroll in ballet/tap or ballet classes during our school -term session will be eligible to audition and participate in the performance. Please note that all students need teacher approval to be considered for casting. Auditions for The Nutcracker will be Saturday, August 14th, Saturday, August 28th and Saturday, September 11th. Students need to attend only one audition date. Please contact the studio for audition times and additional information, or come by to pick up a flyer. Students and families who are not participating should plan on coming to see the show. It is so special for students to get a chance to see teachers and fellow students perform. The Nutcracker is a special holiday tradition sure to captivate all who attend. Shows will be held December 18th and 19th at the Campbell Heritage Theatre.
Continuing this school term, South Bay Dance Center is proud to present South Bay Ballet Arts. This regional ballet company, under the artistic direction of Kit Ashleigh-Dean, is dedicated to the development of professional level dancers through high quality dance education and through professional performance opportunities. Following the tradition of the highest standards already present at South Bay Dance Center, South Bay Ballet Arts provides an avenue for the most devoted ballet students while enriching the cultural life of the surrounding community. SBBA Company Members will perform in our production of The Nutcracker, our Spring Repertory Concert, and be featured in South Bay Dance Center’s June Showcase. Please note that SBBA Company Members will be given first consideration for all principal and solo roles for The Nutcracker. Auditions for SBBA will be held during The Nutcracker auditions. Company classes begin the first week in October although all members should be prepared to attend rehearsals during company class time throughout the Nutcracker season.
Pure Dance Productions, our jazz and tap performing company, will continue under the direction of Missy Burnett. Pure Dance Company Members will perform in our Spring Repertory Concert Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Campbell Heritage Theatre. This is a great opportunity for our more advanced students to learn new choreography and gain valuable performing experience. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
Continuing by popular demand are the Friday morning Creative Dance for Toddlers and Preschool Ballet/Tap class. These classes run on 6-week sessions and have a separate pricing structure from our school-term classes. Payment for these classes is due in full at time of registration. Please contact the studio for a registration form and pricing information, as the paperwork attached does not pertain to Friday morning classes.
All of our students enrolled in our school-term session are eligible to participate in our annual June Showcase. The weekend of our June Showcase is always a fun family event. This final show always receives rave reviews from everyone who attends! Please mark your calendars early to make sure you have June 23rd and 24th open for rehearsals. The performances will be Saturday, June 25th and Sunday, June 26th at the Campbell Heritage Theatre.
Students who were unable to attend placement auditions will need to sign up for their most recent level and may be re-evaluated upon special request. Teachers make the final decision in placing students in a class appropriate for their level and age. We always have each student’s best interest in mind. For students who advance in level placement, attending dance class additional days a week may be required. Requirements for students dancing in intermediate and advanced levels are a large commitment, especially for those involved in more than one form of dance.
Our school-term registration will be split into five groups. Please see below for dates and times for school-term registration. Registration will continue during normal office hours until classes are full. The first day of class is Thursday, September 9th.

Please remember that teacher approval is needed when signing up for any class level IB Prep or higher and that we strictly follow the age levels for all IA and combo classes. We will not be able to hold spots for students with unsigned or otherwise incomplete registration forms, or without payment.
We look forward to seeing old and new faces in September. It is sure to be another wonderful dance year!
